How to switch all data usuage off on Iphone 4

Hi
I am going on holiday next week and want to take my iphone with me so I I can listen to music when sitting on the beach or by the pool, but I want to make sure all data usage is switched off and so no one can contact me while I'm away.
If I switch the phone to Airplane mode will this stop all date usage.

you can also just shut off data roaming, which will still allow wifi and normal calls to come through.0
