Hi Members
Just want to know I have a puma potterton boiler, I have no idea how old it is but I have just started staying in the property and feel like the boiler gives out hot water but then constantly trips on its own and then restarts in a few seconds and water is boiling hot. I will see how it goes for a few more days but if it continues what is best to do, get a new boiler or just service this one.
Also looking at boilers and options if it is a working boiler then british gas gives 400£ scrappage discount and some more freebies, I havent spoken to them just yet, but what is better getting it done from british gas or get an independent plumber to get the boiler and fit it. I am sure the independent plumber wouldnt offer all this that british gas is offering.
Any advice from anyone would help me make some decision as I am ftb so not a lot of knowledge of it.
Thanks in advance

any suggestions anyone please.0

I would get it serviced. If you know a boiler engineer or a friend knows one then get them in to have a look. It may cost you 80 quid but at least they will tell you and you may just need a part replacing. Best to get it done now before the winter kicks in.0

At least get a few quotes from non BG fitters - you might be suprised how much cheaper they are (like £400!)0

I was checking the BG website and there is some scrappage discount for about 400 pounds if you replace old boiler. There is no obligation quote that they will give so will see what to do as the boiler keeps getting cut off and water in shower is just lukewarm, even hard to take a shower in.
Anyone knows anything about scrappage scheme discounts.0 -
Just got the british gas guy and quoted me about 3k in which the installation cost in 1k boiler 1.3k and misc 1k but then with some discounts it come to 29** something.
Is this normal?? 1k for installation?
Please advise0 -

That is just a marketing wheeze, they price up the work, then subtract £400. It is the final price that matters to you. If you do replace it, get 3 quotes.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
I'd get the existing one checked out before replacing it. But £3k sounds like a lot. I had a new combi boiler fitted in my 3 bed flat in February this year. Total cost was just under £1200.0

I paid £1800 a couple of years ago for installation of a WB 30CDI.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

It's normal for British Gas!!
Try to find a reputable local company and get a quote from them, you'll be amazed at the difference in price!0 -
Hi Everyone
Thanks a lot for all your replies, I called a local company and they have quoted me about 1.6k and they are also giving that same scrappage discount of 400 pounds but there charges for installation are a lot less about 500 pounds instead of 1.2k, i will call more companies and get quotes but the house we have the boiler in was usused for almost a year and since we have started using it its getting better, could this be right that since it was not used for over a year there could be these delays in warming up the water, I am thinking to get the BG homecare atleast they can come and service the boiler atleast. Has anyone got experience with BG for there homecare plans.0
