Need cheap loft insulation- any deals or ideas??

After receiving a whooping bill from EDF, I'm looking to winter proof my home in light of the colder months approaching.
Our loft has silly little foam balls covering about 1/2 an inch of insulation in the loft. I'm looking to overlay this with some decent loft insulation and was wondering if anyone knew of any deals to be had.
I'm also going to replace the window gaskets on all the windows as they are a little dry and cracked and must let some heat out. I'll also be draft excluding my front door a letter box to help out.
I basically need to make our 1970 house as energy efficient as possible.
Any tip will help!!

The cheapest way is with mineral wool insulation. Most DIY store have some on offer and there isn't much difference between different types of rolls so just pick the one on the best offer.
If you want to spend a bit more you can buy the rigid boards but they cost more and need cutting to fit.0 -
There are currently no offers on insulation due to the 'new' (and worse) Government Green Deal.
I insulated our 70's loft recently and the cheapest place was Wickes and their 100mm base layer insulation which was £30 for 14sqm.

Cheapest place i found was wickes, there are no deals on anymore, the green deal will cost you a survey which you could just spend on the insulation, you dont say how much you need, but most houses can be done for about £100 if you DIY.0
