Memory Foam Mattress Lifespan

Morning ,

I bought a new memory foam mattress from an online retailer , they have a web site and also are quite prolific on Ebay (22000 positives now) . This was about 3.5 years ago , over the last few months the mattress has started to "sag" in used areas and is really starting to cause back pains. We have rotated mattress regularly from day of fitment - I am 12.5 stones my wife is 8.5 so hopefully we are not pushing things ! I contacted the retailer and explained ther position , they apologised and said the guarantee was only a year. I must admit I did not ask this question at time of purchase and I am now a bit surprised - the mattress was nearly £200 showing as list rrp £499 blah blah ! . I must admit I was expecting this too last longer than it has , has anyone else experienced any longevity issues with a memory foam mattress ? One way or another this will be changed very shortly as is becoming a pain in the ar** and back literally !

thanks

  • I bought a memory foam mattress from Amazon in January. Like you, I've been rotating it regularly and so far, I've not had any problems.

Mine was a Silent Night one and it had a 5 year guarantee. Personally, I think that with the correct care, a 5 year lifespan is a reasonable expectation for a memory foam mattress. 3.5 years does seem a little short.
  • thanks for the reply - when I asked them what the life expectancy was all the guy would say was our suppliers offer a year guarantee - looks like I am lucky it's lasted this long ! :j

Had ours about 3 years and still seems as new.
  • We have a tempur mattress, which cost about £1000 10 yrs ago. It is still as firm and supportive now as the day it was bought, there is no sag whatsoever. It has never been turned as it is not recomended or necessary.

life expectancy and guarantee are different things. so called 5 year warranty are on manufacturing defects only. In case of mattress its quite difficult to prove that the mattress is sagging after 3 plus years due to bad manufacturing as opposed to misuse...
