Just Eat & local take-away

Ordered food from a nearby Take-Away through Just Eat (because that way I could pay by card). We've used this place a number of times before, and there's usually something not quite right: the kids meals come with different things than we order (options are smiley faces, fish fingers, chicken nuggets, dinosaur shapes - its always just one of these substituted for another), what they advertise as strawberry cheesecake on the JE menu is actually a strawberry gateaux (still tasty). Its never anything major, so we've always just left it.
When it arrived this time, though, there was a couple of worse things wrong; the calzone contained unadvertised olives (yuk), and our chicken burger which we ordered with garlic mayo actually had cream cheese & chive spread (yuk, yukkity yuk YUK!).
JE obviously don't give out the T/A's number (yes, I could have Googled it, but I placed my order with JE, so seemed reasonable to use their procedure) so I dialled into their Live Chat online where they kept me waiting for an hour & a half. We finished eating the rest & put the kids to bed by the time I had time to call them (spending my own money, which I begrudge).
Initially the T/A just made an offer of a free pizza, which I refused as it was far too late, and the pizza would be worth about half of the value of the incorrect food. After I pushed, I got to speak to the take away myself, who insisted that the stuff on the burger couldn't be cheese & chive as they don't have it (whatever it is, its the consistency of Philadelphia spread). Finally they agreed a refund for the two items, and said bye on the phone. Not sure if I was going to speak to the JE operator again, I didn't hang up and so was privy to the T/A girl's conversation with JE. They calculated my refund, and then the T/A requested I be blocked from ordering from them again - they claim I have made numerous complaints in the past.
I just couldn't believe it. Now that they've said it, I have no interest in ordering from them again anyway; but to claim that about a customer who has ordered so many times, and has actually never made even one complaint is a terrible way to do business.
Anyone local wants to know the T/A name, I'll PM it if you ask.

Bit rude but you weren't meant to hear the conversation and if they want to stop you ordering then really it's only them who are losing out on the deal.

I wouldn't take it too personally.

Maybe they are giving the orders to someone else. They were on TV alittle while back, Food coming from places that did not exist.

That was slightly different that element on TV.

As to the OP, if they are getting it wrong regularly I wouldnt be ordering from them, obviously do not value your custom if they cannot get the orders right which has been shown now that they have asked you to be blocked from ordering ( Dont think JE have that facility anyway).

Your lucky you got a refund, I complained about a DREADFUL pizza (which I ended up binning) and JE refused to do anything saying if the takeaway refuse we can't do anything. The takeaway said 'It was up to their standards' so would not refund me either.

In other words, we think its fine so buzz off.

Safe to say I stopped ordering through JE, I know it was the takeaway who made the bad meal but neither party did anything to help. JE get paid by the takeaways so they can't sit there and act innocent and say 'Well we can't do anything' because they can.

Another example of a company not giving a toss.
  • Use JustEat for the menu, then phone direct.

If you can't find the number online as they have hidden it (to get you to use JE/HH) then use GoogleMaps to look at the takeaway - their phone number is always on the building!

While this may work, for many people the benefit of Just Eat is ordering online and paying by card.

But if the cost is that it take 90 mins of waiting and a call at your expense I dont see the point of paying the £0.50 - £1.50 surcharge of paying by card for that benefit.

No, order online but always pay cash on delivery - check it if you need to.
  • I'm not aware that it takes any longer for food to come when ordered through Just Eat compared to phoning directly. It's certainly never been longer for takeaways I've ordered from.

You seem to have something against Just Eat. They offer something different to many takeaways - the ability to order online and pay by card. For that reason they are useful to many people. I can't see why that's difficult to understand.

We use a much better takeaway when we have cash handy in the house. Unfortunately they're not on JE.

If they have hidden it then I would use an alternative takeaway! Seems dodgy to me!
