Hi, was wondering if anyone could help. We are moving in 2 weeks after exchanging last week - yay! All been fairly smooth really seeing as we saw the house in April! Hope i havent just jinxed us now.
Anyway the house we are buying currently has cable but we want broadband set up and ideally we dont want to wait 7 days as i work from home half the week and i cant be done with massive drives every day. Does anyone know if i can get it set up so its in place pretty much as soon as we move.
We also want to transfer Sky but that isnt as important
Any help would be appreciated

Sky is pretty straight forward and canbe done yourself if there is the dish and stuff in situ and the previous people havent taken it away. More often than not you just need to connect it up the same way as it is in your old home and thats it - no need to pay their engineer to come out and do something you can do yourself (we have done it this way in two moves saving us £120 in total!).
Broadband will pretty much be up to your provider so phone them and see what they say, ours way 3 weeks after moving that we got on the go again...."Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

I wanted to know this too. Obviously I will tell BT as well as my internet provider and I want to be able to connect straight away when we move.
Also, if you tell Sky that you are moving I would have thought they wouldn't like it if you connected your Sky to the dish of the new house yourself because they would want the work themselves?0 -
Beachbeth, i have heard Sky charge a fortune for installation when you move home and are pretty damm awkward. The sky dish was in my husbands name now so i was thinking maybe to cancel this one and i would take out a brand new contract at our new house.
As for the broadband, there is no way i can wait 3 weeks or i will be driving 165 miles a day to the office. Will give them a call and see what they say0 -
Sky will tell you to try putting your box on the dish/ leads already in place. If that doesn't work they will do a house move service for £40.
Other option is to cancel in your name and take a new customer service in partner's name.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Hi,
we have just moved and got our sky installed free and upgraded to sky+. we just asked to cancel because of the move and that we work shifts so miss loads of programs, they were begging us to stay.
As for broadband was told by BT they needed 5 days from previous owners notice of termination before they could provide BB, but because our sellers took so long to let them know they were moving (3 days before) it slowed thing down.0 -
As you have signed and exchanged contracts and the current owners are on cable, is there no way that you could ask if you could have the BT line re connected and broadband activated on it over the next 2 weeks? I take it that they currently get their phone through their cable provider, as such it shouldn't be as much of a problem as if they were getting bb through the phone line.
If they were getting it through the phone line it would take a couple of days as one provider would have to declare the line free for the next to take up the line, and this can get all messy and confusing as each department mucks up this process.
If you trust the current owner and they are willing to let you I can see no reason why you cannot start the ball rolling now as there should be no risk now thaty you have signed and exchanged.
Hope this helps
