Certificated shares

I am looking to buy some shares in an investment trust. Trouble is I like to have a certificate and it seems incredibly expensive to buy shares this way.

I always used to buy shares through Lloyds TSB, but they appear to have stopped their share dealing service.

I don't do many share trades - probably not even one per year, so I don't really want to have pay an annual fee.

Am I just being totally stupid?

you could buy in a nominee account, and then (pay to) have the shares turned into certificated form. with SVS Securities or X-O, i think the total cost of that is a little over £20.

or there are various nominee accounts with no annual fees when you don't deal. (SVS, X-O, and others.) fees can change, but you would probably be able to demand free certification of your shares if and when an annual fee is introduced.

or does the investment trust have its own savings scheme? which would be a nominee account again, but might not have annual charges. though some of these schemes have been getting more expensive recently.

Lloyds or Halifax do deal shares and will handle a certificate for you without a sub fee

I always used to use Lloyds, but they wrote to me a few months ago saying they weren't offering this service anymore:(

Would have been smarter if they had passed you onto Halifax. I presume thats why they stopped, because its a duplicated service between the two
