36mpg is about all you get from a 1.2 Corsa anyway :o
Seriously? I've driven her car before

The most i've had is 50mpg on the motorway & about 44-45mpg on the A roads.

With a car like that, I'd just do very basic servicing and run it into the ground. It has practically no value, and is not worth spending good money on.

Start the hunt for the replacement now, you may be able to sell the car on or part ex it whilst it's worth something.
£1,500 isn't really no value though. Assuming they still sell for that (i haven't looked). We only spend about that on a car anyway.

My car is only worth about £700-£800 these days, but i'd still spend money on it as it's in great nick.

Do you guys know anything about the 1.4 engines in the Corsa C? Are they much better than the 1.2s as far as these noises go?

I suspect all Corsa Cs (both pre facelift & facelift) will have the annoying needle death problem? By that i mean you're driving along & 1 minute you're doing 50mph, the next you're doing 0mph according to your speedo ... as the needles have died.

Mine does low 50s on motorway miles(tested the proper way briming tank) rubbish around town though.

squealing noise sounds like transmission noise, but i could be wrong.

Needle of death I just tap the dials. Its the connection in the back. Proper fix is to remove the instrument clusters and clean the connectors

I believe the 1.4 is a cam belt not chain. only one that isn't a chain. I don't think there a huge power difference between the two. There alot of c's still on the road which means either there reliable or cheap to fix.

I'm coming up my third year of fault free (bar wear and tear) motor in car that hasn't particular been well looked after by previous owners if the service book and the colour of the oil I changed when i first got is anything to go by.

There are numerous examples on a 2002 plate for Under £1000, and that's on Autotrader which tends to add a couple of hundred to the market price.

I just really think it's not worth spending money on a car like that, that's "working". I'd use it until it's "not working" and scrap it for £150, and accept that you've had your moneys worth, or find a car I liked more and part ex it for £500 or so whilst it can still drive to the dealers.

Nah that one isn't true. The 1.8 isn't a chain either. It's the Z18XE engine, the same that's in my Astra G, which is belt.

It's really hard to find a Corsa that doesn't look like it's been abused though.

No offence, but i've been on there & i find them to be the most unhelpful, arrogant, ignorant car forum i've ever been registered on. I'd hazard a guess at it being because the Corsa C is generally driven by young folk, young lads usually, but that guess goes out the window because i've been registered on a Polo forum before & that was quite a helpful place.

Don't get me wrong, some members on there can be quite helpful, but there's a huge amount that are just timewasters.
  • Hi Guys

Just wondering as my car has started to have a small tick did you ever fix this ? or did you just live with it and if you did, did any other problems occur ?

The best way to kill ticks is to not pull them off as they leave the jaws in; it is to cover them with petroleum jelly so they smother.

I bought a tick removal tool after I had one removed by my GP using one.
