Laptop problems

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help. I am trying to help my fil with his laptop. When you try to access the internet it is freezing if you try to go onto anything except google and then the computer will give one beep, freeze and then no longer work.

I have looked in task manager and it is showing that it is working at 67% even though task manager is the only thing I am using so something is draining the power on the computer in the background? I have run chkdsk, malwarebytes and avg and none of them have found anything untoward so I am stuck what to try next.

An extra problem it has (dont know if it is relevant or not) is that it will not run adobe flash player. I go onto the site and download it and it says that it has been installed correctly but then go back to a site to use it and it still says to download it.

Thank you for the help,
x

I would have a rough guess it could be over heating, even at that low processor usage.

You can find speccy here: http://www.piriform.com/speccy good utility for working out the temps of your systems devices, CPU, Graphics (if you have a GPU), I think memory too (though I am working on my laptop at the moment and don't have speccy installed on this), memory (I think again too) and hard drives.

If say the CPU is running at a rediculously high temperature it will just cut your computer out (usually older ones just freeze but newer ones just shut off).

It could be a software glitch though (in the sense of memory), does happen and memory problems are the cause of many system failures with desktop or laptop devices where they do not have sever type memory (techie speak ECC Error Correction Code memory where memory glitches or memory corruption is not tolerated, servers basically), that opens up a whole array of different problems even environmental factors can cause memory problems (people who deny this don't have a clue how computer systems work, I do, just like when people say hotter temperatures don't slow down processors, they do, even an IT tech friend of mine who works for a company says they do, hotter processor temps cause greater friction in the CPU's microfine wires thus causing slower processing speeds)

Laptops are notoriously bad for air flow, because they tend to be very compact nowadays thus with higher processing speeds, great for portability but not very good, are you or anyone else covering any of the vents of the laptops case when using it? This could be a cause for this (just thought I'd ask) it sounds more like there's a memory glitch with your browser but as always that could be an environmental factor to memory (long shot but has happened to a friends of mine I think).
Doing some indepth analysis of my outgoings it's a real eye opener!

I find if I keep paying by card and keeping the receipts insisting that I have them from the shop, then itemising them when I get home on excel makes my life a whooole lot easier!

Try changing the browser. Firefox is good - others are available.

    Try resetting the browser defaults.
