hi there

will be on the lookout for a used car for the wife over the next couple of months. max budget 4k . would be available for this price range that is reliable? The car is for a family of 5, 2 kids under 5 and one 12. What car dealerships would you recommend and which ones to avoid? I have heard horror stories about Arnold Clark, are they that bad? I live in clydebank,

Have a look on Auto Trader. As for reliability, who knows at £4k, get an inspection done on a car before buying.

Arnold Clark? Plenty horror stories but you hear more about a company the bigger they are in reality.

I have bought from different dealers over the years including 7 from Arnold Clark.

Number 8 from Arnold Clark arrives later this week. Go in, do your research on prices first and know what you want. I was offered a deal last Saturday which was far too expensive so it never went any further.

They then called on Tuesday after finding the actual car that I wanted which wasn't easy as it's limited edition and very hard to find now. They offered me a deal that was nothing short of excellent so I went after work and signed the order form.

Think bigger. Bigger cars can be bought for less money. But the running costs maybe very similar.

Recent trip from the Midlands to the Lincolnshire coast I averaged just over 57mpg in a Mondeo estate a 2L diesel.

But a Mondeo costs less to buy than a Focus or smaller hatchback.
