A big thank you to everyone for your kind words and support. Misty passed away peacefully this morning whilst I stroked her head. It was the best way she could have gone and in her own home, laying on her blanket. We then drove her to Raystede pet crematorium where we said our last goodbyes and left her in the safe hands of the lovely gentleman that runs it. When we get her ashes back we will scatter them in the park near home that she spent many happy hours running around. I'd like to sent big hugs back to everyone and feel for all that have also lost their beloved pets. x

Hugs to you wackynut, Misty was happy at the time and relaxed:A
    RIP Misty

Feeling down? Weak in body? Makes no difference to me, I think of you all when I'm sitting quietly.

Hugs and healing thoughts are always going your way.

The Government will issue new guidance to schools telling them to avoid specially branded uniforms to keep uniform costs to a minimum for hard-working families.

David Laws, the Schools Minister, said the cost of clothing was often "unnecessarily high" at a time when household budgets were being squeezed.

Research shows that the average family with two children currently spends £450 on uniforms, coats and bags, with prices increasing by more than 40 per cent in just two years.

Existing school admissions rules in England already place a legal duty schools to ensure they do not discriminate against poor pupils. This includes keeping the cost of uniform to a minimum and ensuring items are “widely available in high street shops and other retail outlets”.

But it is feared that most schools are flouting the rules.

Our (state) primary school is a typical bad example where the fund-raising team runs the in-school uniform sales - and loads maybe 50% on the cost price to raise money for the school. Good cause - but we end up getting screwed on the price.

There's also a summer dress in the uniform we have to drive 25 miles to the only place that sells it - @ nearly £25 for a dress! Needless to say, I buy big so that it lasts 2 years, my daughter does tend to look like she has an ankle length dress on in year 1 but by year 2 we start wondering if it's a bit too mini skirt-ish:D

Anybody else get ripped off like this?

you' re right but seems like we're all suffering one way or the other.

Yes :( Im still smarting from the almost £500 Ive just forked out. Uniform only available in 2 selected shops at eye watering prices. I had no luck with the online places that do embroidery at cheaper prices as none had my sons school listed.

Worse still he's lost a £20 PE top that's been worn once :(:(:(

This is something that makes me very angry.
Our local academy charge ridiculous prices and parents have no choice other than to buy from the school.

    Blazer costs £23-£33
    Jumper £13. 50-£14.50
    Polo PE top £10.50-£11.50
    PE shorts £4.50-£5
    Tracksuit bottoms £14-£15
Long sleeve outside PE top £13-£14.50
    GIRLS Tartan Skirt £14-£18
    School Tie £5

The kids have to buy all of this from the school as they have the logo's on and special house colours. They are really strict too. Children get sent home for wearing the wrong navy blue trousers. What a complete rip off.
This isn't a posh private school either. It's an academy which used to be the basic high school that my eldest children, I and my parents went to. I just hope something is done before my youngest goes there.

Just had the 'ooo, they've saved thirty one pounds against Sains.' feeling:( - to be fair that was the largest amount, about £15 more expensive elsewhere. And no I'm not posting the comp., as none of the items any good even on a SBM vs A shop - they included that silly small Hellmann's Mayonnaise bottle that works out more expensive than the more expensive cheaper bigger one A vs elsewhere. So there!:rotfl:

Instead, I have got the opportunity to generate a voucher of 2p:rotfl::(.

I'm posting the M comp. below, as it's Morries pricing that has given me that opportunity - still being stung by the Cathedral City again having finished on offer in M the week before:(.

    Why £0.02?

13 items on your bill qualify for comparisonASDALogoWhite.gif Morrisons

That "0.0" before the "2" more or less minimises it - may as well have been 0.00001.

:rotfl::rotfl:The 375g Crunchy Nut - who on earth would pay £2.08 for that? Our guide is £1.34 on 750g. My brief hope - hoping it was a larger cereal that might have been cheaper elsewhere and noticed they had made no mbuy savings at all, as well as buying Monster Munch full price, so might have been at least same price elsewhere on the whole trolley. But no - just 2p off the 10%. For what it's worth (and don't allow the Savvy tempter to take over again;)) the Trip Choc. roll is comparing vs M's £1.00. Although whoopsied ones can be cheaper than 90p, and anyway... we don't want more chocolate!!:)
