Cant remember who I had cards with

I am wanting to try and reclaim ppi/meaf fees, a friend has just managed to get back fees going back to 1996, however I cannot remember who i have had cards/mortgages with. I can go through my bank account going back 6 years but how can i find out about cards/mortgages prior to that?

I know for sure that I have been hit with some pretty hefty mortgage exit fees and possibly PPIs.

Thanks in advance.

    You could send Subject Access Request (SAR) letters to all the likely suspects. Template here;

    As it costs £10 per letter, this could prove a very expensive project with little return on very old finance. The further past six years you go the less chance of any records still existing, especially on closed accounts.

    SARs are supposed to be for all of the information which a particular institution holds on you (or at least all that is easily accessed using a relevant filing system). Though if you have a particular purpose in mind it's probably best that you spell it out. Experian reports can also help, however, they typically only go back six years.

    Do be aware that all these will tell you is whether you had borrowing with a particular lender and possibly whether you took PPI out with it. You can't just reclaim it because you had it, despite what some of the CMC adverts would have you believe, and if this is what you expect then you may be in for a shock.

    Yes, you need to have a valid complaint about these financial products (specifically the manner they were sold) in order to have any hope of a refund.

    MEAFs are a valid charge. The ruling on those from the FSA was that only if you were charged more than the figure agreed when you bought the mortgage (or later deal) then the difference should be refunded. MEAFs have never been hefty. In most cases, they were around £250.

    There is no article saying that. Even if there is then it would be wrong.
