Fridge freezer recommendation

We need to replace our fridge freezer. Has anyone got any recommendations for a manufacturer and model number? It should, hopefully, have around a 3/1 fridge/freezer split.

  • Have you thought about a tall fridge/freezer upright model? Have a look at the Argos ones.

I have two old below counter Hotpoints of about 13 years, fridge and freezers and I recently, 6 months back had to replace the thermostat in the Hotpoint fridge which isn't bad going for a fridge of it's age. Nothing else has gone wrong with it apart from that. Both are very quiet.

I purchased a tall White Knight L240H about a week ago and it's fairly good, nice shelving adjustment with piles of slots so little wasted space. Only a few fridges have that feature whereas most can only have shelves in a couple of adjustment positions. The door shelves are quite decent for holding large milk containers at the bottom. Watch out for large containers in the door as some are quite poor.

Most new fridges are quite noisy and my new one is much noisier than the old Hotpoints I have. Some reviews of some fridges mention how noisy the compressors are and mention unusual noises ie Beko.

I wanted a taller fridge than the White Knight but none of the taller 175cm fridges had good shelf adjustment and would of wasted all the extra space so they were not worth spending all the extra money on.

Watch out for Argos discount vouchers which can get £20 off £100 or 10% which appear in some newspapers on a regular basis. My White Knight cost me just over £160 with all the vouchers and nectar points that I had. That was a £70 saving. HotUKDeals usually post about upcoming Argos newspaper discount vouchers.

Thanks, but I'm looking for a free-standing unit.

You probably need to give a few more pointers before anyone give any specific recommendations. Such as - height, width (55 cm, 60cm, more), budget, colour preference, specific features (do you like gadgets, water cooler, frost free...), etc, etc.

Generally Bosch are very well regarded, however will cost more than other makes for what is otherwise an identical fridge.

I'd recommend you mine that I bought only a fortnight ago, but it looks like John Lewis have stopped stocking it - it looked like this: http://ao.com/product/EN3451AOW-Electrolux-Fridge-Freezer-White-27509.aspx, but with the addition of a front digital display and a two year warranty for the same price (including the same cashback deal - my credit card then adds a third year for free).

This was my second choice at the time if the electrolux wasn't available: http://www.mychoice.co.uk/samsung-rl56gegih-fridge-freezer-1-85m-tall-frost-free-inox-stainless - 5 year warranty, huge capacity.

I have no real preferences other than around a 3/1 fridge/freezer split. Our current unit has net capacities of 300 litres in the fridge and 100 litres in the freezer so I wouldn't want to go very much smaller than that, especially on the fridge.
