  • We get up, open pressies with the kids, and then try to be next door at SIL's house for breakfast and more present opening by 9.30am. An hour later we go to FIL's house. Then to DH's uncle's house in the next town so we can see DH's granny. The to my mum's house for dinner at 1pm and more presents. Then to MIL's house to see her. Then back to my mums to drop off children so we can go out and get drunk and do NOTHING on boxing day because xmas day is so exhausting. I'm glad I don't have to cook a huge dinner, but we hardly get to spend any time together with the children during the day and they don't get to play with toys since they're being dragged around half a dozen houses.

It might have to change this year :)

  • Not sure on how this Christmas will go as it will be my first as a single mum. They normaly go something like this. Wake up, open stockings, get washed & dressed, we then have a full cooked breakfast, open rest of the presents, go to my mums and have dinner. We have Christmas dinner not lunch, it always seems really odd to me when people eat a huge dinner at lunch time, its not long after breakfast? Dinner normally takes about an hour or so at my mums with the rest of the family. We then watch doctor who or something similar and slob out for the evening.

I really enjoy Christmas - went through a few years of being a yuletide grump and decided enough was enough. It happens every year so better to enjoy it - especially as thoughts turn towards it in September.

Normally we spend it at my mums (OH and I). My mum cooks an amazing dinner, we open presents and generally chill out. My younger brother and OH are always there too but my sister and other brother sometimes have to visit their OH's family so they are either there or not!

This year I OH and I will have our first baby so not sure how it will go down really. He will only be 3 months so too young to understand the day but in the future as he gets old enough I am going to make Christmas amazing for him like my mum and dad did for me.

My favourite part of Christmas is Christmas Eve. OH and I tend to stay in watching a Christmas film and eating Quality Streets. I always work on Christmas Eve (not this year as on maternity leave) and love how happy people are. There's such a lovely atmosphere the day before Christmas.

Not keen on Boxing Day when it's all over but this year I'm going to the Next sales to try and get a ton of baby clothes as I anticipate I'll be up early anyway!

I hate Christmas. Noticed today they're already selling Christmas biscuits in Sainsburys.

Ha, yes it is a bit strange really. We have always had ours at about 2pm, but last year we tried having it in the evening at about 6 and I totally preferred it.
Aside from anything else it means it's dark, so all the tree lights were on and the fairy lights and candles were all twinkling and the atmosphere was SO much more Christmassy.
Definitely having it in the evening again this year.
