You'd have thought with all these highly dangerous elderly drivers running amok with no apparent easy way to prevent them that we'd have some horrifying road death statistics and at least be looking to be in with a shout of winning that particular league.
But no, somehow we're about as affective at turning this 'scary' situation into European league success as Man City, we just don't seem to be able to get off the bottom of the table ;)

Well, add the obvious deaths to the accidents they cause but aren't involved in and who knows how bad the statistics would look?

One thing that does my nut in, is the old "i've been driving 50 years and never had an accident", which really means "i;ve been driving 50 years, i've never had an insurance claim, but i've seen plenty of accidents in my rear view mirror and dented every car i've ever parked next to".

But even then, they say that drink driving accounts for 5% of road deaths, which statistically speaking means that the other 95% are caused by sober drivers... Does this make drink driving safer?

Maybe if they were driving on the wrong side of the road, towards you? Or forcing others to join a dual carriageway/motorway too slowly for the prevailing traffic speed? :(

Car A motoring along left hand lane on dual carriageway somewhere between 65-70mph.

Right hand lane has overtaking traffic.

Car B (driven by older person whose judgement may not be accurate) pulls onto dual carriageway from short slipr road at 35mph in front of car A. Car A has nowhere to go as overtaking lane is full.

Car A stands on his brakes but it's not enough..............

Actually that wouldn't happen, more likely Car A would swerve around Car B and smash into someone else whilst the doddery old fool carried on unharmed, most likely "tutting" at the crazy impatient drivers that just crashed..... "I've Been driving 50 years and never had an accident".

No different to all the crazy idiots he saw going the wrong way down the motorway, "how dare they have the cheek to flash their lights at me!!!!".

An older gentleman hit me head on less then two weeks ago. He should NOT have been driving and has accepted complete liability for the accident. The ambulance driver that attended told me he sees this ALL the time. I think anyone over 70 should have to have a driving competence review at least once a year. I was injured, my 9 month old car is a write off and what if I had been killed? I have young children at home :/ He was 85 and he and his wife are fine. He has thankfully been asked to surrender his license to avoid prosecution.

Surely car A should have seen it coming and slowed down in time.
  • There's an elderly man who lives near me and he drives extremely slowly, at a crawling pace. He was out today going at about 5mph. His car must never leave first gear. He's been driving like this for a few years but I think he's got worse.
