Warning re tesco direct internet payments

I have just spent a whole day trying and failing to order a washing machine from Tesco Direct.

on my first attempt I was near to the limit on my debit card so tesco's cancelled my order. What they don't warn you is that having done this they lock you out for 28 days. It took me until 4pm to discover the sting from the first transaction. In the between time I tried every card in my possession to buy the w/m.

The technical boffins cannot override the system and told me to order again in 28 days.

UNBELIEVABLE!

how can they know (or care) when your 'near to the limit' ?

I would have thought it was within the amount or outwith the amount you can take out you card.

This happened to me a couple of years ago when trying to buy a tv/dvd/video from Comet online using a Tesco Personal Finance credit card.

I thought the transaction had gone through but apparently it was declined for security reasons (large amount on internet transaction). I then ordered again & it was declined again (for the same reason, even though I'd spoken to Tesco to verify it was actually me placing the order).

I tried for a third time only to have the transaction declined because I was 'technically' over the credit limit, even though the first two tansactions had been cancelled by Comet when Tesco declined payment.

In the end Tesco Personal Finance agreed to increase my credit limit so that I could actually buy the tv.

The whole thing was so annoying, all I wanted to do was buy a tv.

Have you tried ringing the credit card company?
