Electricity costing so much...

I need to work out what I'm doing wrong as.....well I remember getting an electric bill sometime last year saying I owed about £400.

I called them and they said no worries, just to add something extra to my monthly direct debits. I started paying something like £70 a month.

I haven't monitored the whole thing in ages, although I keep all my bills, so I must dig them all out and look at it.....but whenever I've got a bill, the amount never seems to come down.

I can't think how i'm using so much electric apart from my boiler doesn't work at the moment, so I've been using kettles to fill a bath every morning. Might be a daft question but can this really cost a lot more?

I have the computer on for about 4 hours a day and lights on in the evening. Apart from boiling a kettle and making an evening meal, I don't use anymore electric....

The statement from March to September is for £163 - so I worked out that over six months I'm using about £27 a month. Is that good or bad would you say. I live on my own in a flat.

A friend has suggested switching to another company....but my desire to be thinking about this subject, for this long, in one lifetime is not that great. Sorry if that sounds bad :o

  • You're going to have to post how much electricity you're actually using in units/kwhs...
  • Aaaargh!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol!

    day energy 594 units at 16.79p £99.73

    night energy 128 units at 8.06p £10.32

    stored heat 382 units at 6.65p £25.40

the rest is standing charges at VAT
  • I guess what I'm wondering is what is average for someone like me? If I can get it down I will, but if it's pretty much normal then I'll see if I can save in other areas

You've been boiling kettles to fill the bath?? How many kettles.

An electric kettle uses around 3Kw in an hour of use so you can work out how much its costing.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Don't even attempt to switch supplier with your current set up; such attempts invariably end in tears.

1100kWh over 6 months is hardly any electricity, especially when you heat by electric too.
