My Brother DCP J315W printer has suddenly started printing everything in landscape rather than portrait. I have been into printer propeties and it is set to portrait. I'm not great technically, and I'm hoping it's something simple. Can anyone help please?

Without having the printer to hand, or the manuals about the first thing that springs to mind is, does the printer have a specific utility/driver for setting it up?
And does it have any printer options on the actual printer? If it has a connection to hook up directly to a digital camera or is an all in one it might have a physical button that overrides the Windows setting.

I remember having a bit of fun with one of our Epson printers once because, from memory, a setting in the Epson utilities was overiding the one in the Windows Printer control panel.
I also ran into a similar problem with one version of Open Office (I think it was), which caused me to change to Libre Office as apparently it was reasonably common at the time.

I've lost track of the amount of time I've wasted trying to sort out things that were set differently in a driver/utility to what the Windows OS setting says it is (usually sound cards though*), now I tend to try and check the manufacturers utilities if installed as one of my first steps in solving this sort of thing.

Is this happening with specific programmes or groups of program? (IE parts of something like MS Office or Open Office?)
Or is it literally happening with everything from say Notepad to printing from your web browser?

*And in 3 years I never did find out why one of my machines kept resetting the microphone boost at every single boot/log in (despite updating and reinstalling the drivers many times).

You say that the printer properties are set to landscape therefore this is how it will print. Can you not just change this to portrait

Thanks - I've just tried notepad and word, and it's fine, so it is only happening in things I print from Firefox.

If it's happening in FF, then go to
    File
    Page setup
And check it's set to portrait in there:)

The windows Printer settings are the default, but get over ridden by individual programmes :)
