Domain Name Question?

I've gone with 123-reg to get a Domain Name.
Does anyone know how long they take, before registration is complete?
Do they send out anything in the post?
Many Thanks

UK or US domain name? Or yet another top-level domain?
I haven't used 123-reg (I tend to use ukreg.com) but normally the domain name should be active within a day. Nominet does (or at least did) send out some paperwork in the post a while back but that's a separate process and shouldn't affect the availability of the domain.0 -
Ive used 123reg and think they are very good, The domain name is registered straightaway and documents sent out giving you details and passwords about 3 weeks after.
and you can go through Quidco for good cashback!0 -
How do I prove, I have rights to the Domain?
Many Thanks0 -

Have you just registered a controversial domain?I know nothing - really!!0 -

The most obvious evidence of your ownership is the fact that 123 have attached it to a server (i presume) and that only you have access to it.
You sound like you're expecting a problem;)I know nothing - really!!0 -

It would only ever come up if someone disputed your right to ownership, but then they would have to prove why they have a right to it, on top of showing that you are either cyber squatting or committing fraud by pretending to be them. If two parties have equal legitimacy to a domain then it's purely first come first serve. Once you own it, you own it. So long as you are not being deliberately deceptive it would have to be very extraordinary circumstances for you to lose it and quite unlikely anyone would bring up a dispute in the first place."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I don't think he's asking about proof of ownership but establishing his right to have that name in the first place."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Hi Uncle Fester,
To see if your domain name has been registered you can check something called the who-is database.
What extension did you register your domain name with? I.e. was it a .com or .co.uk or other? If it was a .co.uk domain name then your best bet is to check the Nominet website, to search just type in the domain name with the extension in the "WHOIS" box at the top right hand-side of the page.
If your domain name wasn't a .co.uk and say if it was a .com then use Network Solution's WHOIS database.
In terms of registration most domain names get set up within about 12 hours. this also includes setting up the nameservers (the servers if your Registrar - I.e. in your case 123-REG)
Hope that helps mate0 -
I'm writing just to reply with regards to the paperwork that gets sent out, Nominet do send out a confirmation letter of a newly registered domain name however this can take a few weeks/even months. It isn't a quick thing.
I'm sure I have read they are no longer going to be doing this but I also don't know when from.0
