Completed credit card application wrong and got turned down

My wife applied for a credit card with Sainsburys, but wrote the wrong salary down (she put £4k per annum down as a mistake), and she got turned down. She earns a lot more (more than a multiple of ten), and has an unblemished payment record. Her assets outweigh her debts even before you take our home into account.
1) Will this rejection affect our credit rating
2) Should she reapply, or will this put another request on to the credit rating which (through multiple applications) will reduce our credit rating.
Any advice?

1) You don't have a 'credit rating'
2) I would appeal it first - salary is a key driver so if you can advise them of the error and include a photocopy of her payslip they may reassess the application. Do this first and if it fails apply through a different lender. How many other recent aplications for credit has she made?0 -
None. She doesnt even need another credit card which is paid off from our joint account 100% every month.
She was persuaded by someone in Sainsburys that she could make more points if she had another card.
She allowed herself to do be encouraged to do it quickly

Definitely appeal first then. But if she wants a 'reward' card there are some better ones out there but I'm a bit out of the loop as to the best.0 -
Is there any value in appealing simply to reverse the rejection. Or does that not matter?0

Im not trying to understand why she was turned down - that is obvious. I am trying to find out and what we need to do to rectify it.0 -

Don't just reapply online - phone them. I'm sure you must have received a reference number for the application or something?0
