Reduce My Excess.co.uk - car hire excess insurance for Europe

I purchased excess insurance for car hire travel in Spain. I usually pay for it there but I saw on Martin Lewis's site that you can buy insurance here before you go.

When we were registering with RecordCar in Alicante airport as we had prebooked the vehicle before we left, we were told by the staff that they did not accept the insurance we had and that if we didn't take cover through them they would charge us a 400 euro bond in case of any claim. We obviously did not want to pay the bond so opted for their insurance which cost us 48.92 euros.

The policy with Reduce My Excess cost us £39.99. What is the point in purchasing this policy if the Spanish companies do not accept it?

Has anyone else had the same experience?

I have emailed Myfinance.com and am awaiting a reply.

    You have misunderstood.

It is an insurance against paying the excess.

So if you have to pay an excess in the event of a claim and you have the policy you can claim it back.

That was a waste of €48.92.

    You were already insured.

But in the case of damage you pay the car hire firm the excess and claim it back from the insurer that you've already paid for.
