Housing Benefits Stopped.

I applied for JSA after being redundant and also applied for housing benefits. I was a 2 bed house where I was living with my wife and one child.
my JSA and housing benefits were accepted and received a housing benefit of 575 a month which was 60 less than the rent I had to pay.
after 6 months I moved to another property which was 1 bed flat on a shop as I couldn't pay the rent difference and wanted somewhere cheaper.
I submitted all documents to council and claim was 'under process' for 2 months. My landlady gave me a 'demand notice (section 8 eviction notice)' of 2 weeks last week.
this weekend I received a letter from council that my benefits have been stopped. No reason has been given.
My Landlady is a nice woman but now she is worried as she wont be getting anything off these 2 months.
I am worried that there is no reason to stop the benefits.
I need urgent help as I need to visit my council on monday to find out what's wrong. Anyone with this experience or any advice please.

    Which benefits have been stopped?

Were you on contribution based JSA? When the 6 months contribution based JSA stopped did you change your claim to income based JSA?

    Does your wife work?

Im 30 and my wife is 28. my son is 2 years. I moved because I couldn't find any cheap 2 bed houses. only flat I could find was 1 bed room flat. I spoke to council advisers before I signed the contract. They told me that it's not a problem as long as I was ok to live in it.
  • So you are living in the one bedroom with wife and son? What benefits are you claiming?

No she doen't work and I was only entitled to income based JSA.

Im currently on Income based JSA (couple) , Child Benefits and tax credits for my son and Housing Benefits.
only Housing benefits have been stopped so far
  • I would also speak to CAB or Shelter on Monday and find out more about the eviction notice. In my experience, Councils can be pretty useless at updating changes in address, so it's possible somewhere in the system you're down as claiming for your old address. Has the amount of housing benefit you've been receiving changed at all since you moved to your 1 bed? If not it could be they've been paying benefits based on your old address?

I've had problems with this when I moved before. I had an existing claim for my old address and the Council's Housing Dept told me I just needed to provide my new tenancy agreement and keep providing proof of income (bank statements) which I did. After 6 months, it turned out I should have started a new claim and filled out a whole new form. Then they were able to 'backdate' my claim.

I would make sure you're on the Electoral Roll at your new address, plus the Council Tax, Housing Dept and Jobcentre have all updated their records.

Hope you manage to get it sorted out

That's seems to be only reason if it is . I am currently on my previous address on Electoral Roll and interestingly yesterday I have recieved a letter on previous address asking to pay council tax ( I have redirection service to new address, hence received on new address).
all other records have been updated except electoral roll
