Who was the executor of the estate? If there wasn't one, who obtained letters of administration?
Who dealt with his other affairs?

Until somebody with legal authority to act does something the money will sit there forever.0 -
Too little information.
Was the death expected / was it investigated. Do you have the formal notice? Do you have the death certificate? Has it entered probate? Are you the executor or administrator, was there a will, etc?0 -
If he didn't leave a will then the intestacy rules come into play whereby (unless they actually divorced) I think that the rightful inheritor of that money is his wife.0
