Switching from Dual Fuel to seperates
Just a question, i'm currently on a duel fuel tariff from scottish power, using comparison sites i'm cheapest going to separate suppliers for gas and electricity.
my question is this, if i start the switching process what happens if 1 goe through before the other, does the existing supplier just treat them as separates.
what i'm worried about is for example the new gas supplier completing the switch first and then scottish power shutting the whole account and me losing electricity.
is this likely or am i worrying about nothing?
thanks.

The existing supplier always treats them separately, you'll just happen to be given some kind of discount for having both with the same supplier.
I can't say it's impossible that Scottish Power will close both accounts erroneously since we all know these things occasionally happen, but realistically it should all go smoothly.0 -

All you will possibly lose is a few days dual fuel discount (if you even get any at present)
Even in the unlikley event your later switching fuel account is closed early in error (I can't see how as they will need the start meter reading from the new supplier to finalise your account) your supply will not be interupted.0 -
I've just done the comparisons and realise that I am best to go for two separate providers too.
The difference is I want to stick with my provider (scottish power) for Electricity - but switch to a different tariff but move my gas away.
Anybody foresee a problem with this? The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Ever since I actually realised switchnig providers could actually save money, I've never had dual fuel. It seems as if duel fuel is only typically cheaper for those in the average usage bands. I'd probably be classed as a "low" electricity user (2400 kWh) and "very low" gas user (5000 kWh estimated) so dual fuel never works out cheaper for me.
Can't see why there'd be a problem unless you're on a fixed tariff currently. You should be able to switch your electricity tariff immediately if it'll save you money.Dustykitten wrote: »The difference is I want to stick with my provider (scottish power) for Electricity - but switch to a different tariff but move my gas away.
