When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free. .
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending :money:
A shiny weekend thread - have a good one chaps!:T
Goooooooooood morning world a shiny new thread I hope no one minds
Todays great excitement is thus
Work
Work
Work
Swap some tomatoes for a cabbage - doubtless on a street corner whilst wearing a dodgy trench coat.
Look into setting up a Food Swap web page on FB *ponders*
Something yum for tea
Walk el hounds before and after work - the 'indoor staff' at home can do it during work for me
Speak to mr me on Skype - think he's due up tomorrow
Bit washing later
Bit of a flop in front of fire later with a movie
I may cuddle the indoor staff, but only if they've been good.
Update frugal food blog
Work on new gardening website (yay)
Have a good un!
98p spent on milk yesterday - you can tell the ex-cellist is a tea wifey can't you.

Morning gang!!
Thanks for starting us Pippi!! Hope everyone is geared up for the weekend!
Off to Wales today to stay with my Ma & Pa for the weekend... Doubtless will be spoilt rotten, which will be good for the coffers! As OH and I have promised no birthday gifts, Mum is arranging something on Sunday as an early celebration
My list:
Bacon Sarnies in bed!!
Pack an après-surf picnic from stores and take a flask of tea. Might treat OH to hot choc and welshcakes in my favourite cafe overlooking the bay!
All our gear packed so no cost to hire/buy
Back to Ma & Pa's for baths and showers, pick mum up from train station & hit the town for dinner courtesy of the bank of M&D!:rotfl:
Nice long walk on the coast before Sunday lunch, it's stunning!
Other than that, not a lot for me this weekend, proper relaxation and family time!! The best!!
Lots of MSE love everyone xxx:T DEBT FREE AS OF APRIL 2013! :T"I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul"0 -
Hello, thought I'd join in today as I've been a bit of a lurker and hopefully posting might make me get out of bed and actually get going this morning!
So, hubby is away and its massive de-clutter time, (anyone else have to wait til other halves are out to do this?!)
Its not that he is a hoarder - he just prefers to do 'fun' stuff at weekends instead of what he sees as chores, but the time has come! So, in no particular order, here goes:
Decide where to start the de-clutter - hardest bit! (would like to start on bedrooms but think kitchen will give me more sense of achievement and inspire me to keep going!)
Do a list of everything in freezer and cupboards for some meal planning
Have at least breakfast and lunch from stores
Plan and do an online shop for collection Monday night on way back from work, using 2 x discount voucher codes
Z@pper or mus!c magpie anything I can!
Get best price for two old mobile phones
Hang out washing to dry (after doing said washing)
Ebay and freecycle anything I can... debating whether to get rid of slow cooker (don't hate me!) I hardly used it after the first few weeks... Might seek out a few recipes to see if that sparks some interest!
Pick some cooking apples from garden and make something delicious, or consider making some chutney if I've got enough jars (did this a few years back and gave everyone homemade chutney and crackers for christmas presents)
Not really moneysaving - but go and visit my granny in hospital
Phew - that has worn me out just typing it! Time to haul my bottom out of bed and crack on I think... oh, breakfast and a cuppa first though!
Have a great day everyone!0 -
Hello all, can I join in today? Have been reading this thread since last year and I love it (:
Today:
*Washing on 30 using freebie Ariel pods X 3 lots - hang outside to dry
*List some items on eb@y and chase up 2 non payers - so frustrating!!!
*Check online banking and sort out my new debit cards (had to change my name)
*Something with chicken for dinner, no sure what will have a look in cupboards
*Pick up clothes order from local tesco and buy a few essentials for the week
*Relax and enjoy my day off today, I didn't get much sleep last night baby was kicking me loads!
*have a look at nectar adpoints to see if they have added any new vids for me - I'm up to 140 points this week
Tomorrow:
*Work 7am - 2.30pm
This is defo a list in progress
Enjoy your weekend all xx:money::money::money:0 -
Also a new girly here today! I used to try and post on this thread but I was always out of the house before the thread got started!
Looks like everyone has pretty full weekends.
My weekend looks a little something like this:
*Eat a big breakfast at home to stop me snacking (value wheat biscuits so it is still cheap!)
*Pack lunch and convince fiance to prepare dinner!
*Update spend diary/Check bank accounts/Transfers
*Walk to work and walk home if the rain isn't too bad... (this will also burn off my big breakfast!)
*Call Daddy using free minutes
*Spend 8 hours reducing food at Sa!nsbury's Sat and Sun and hiding goodies in my trolley to buy at the end of my shift (best MSE job ever!!)
*Read news online
*Use re-fillable water bottle all day
*Meal plan and online shop
*Get fiance to sort DVD's/games for me to list on ebay next week
*Hunt for uni course book at cheapest price possible!
I hope that everyone enjoys their day!Baby steps!

Morning all!
Thanks to Pippi for starting us off today and a big hello to new peeps.
I've been AWOL for a while as there's a lot going on in my little head and I just needed to get it sorted. It's still not, but I can't use it as an excuse to procrastinate any longer!
Today so far:- Breakfast from stores
- Fed and watered the chickens
- Gave DH a little shopping list to get on way home from work - that way he pays
- Checked banking
- Checked for surveys
- Adjusted my annual budget as electricity DD has reduced by £14
Also for today:- DH borrowing work's van to move DS3 into his new house - saves hiring a van for the weekend
- Wash sleeping bag and hang outside in the free sunshine
- Three alterations to do for customers
- Lunch and dinner from stores, just not sure what yet
- Possibly go to allotment later
- Debate about whether or not to take the flat I viewed yesterday
I think that'll do today,
Take care,

Morning all!
Long time no post... Need to pull myself together, taken a paycut for a new job and moved to a new (more expensive) area so need to start watching the pennies again!
Thanks for starting us off Pippi!
So, today I will...
Check banks
Check CC
Check TCB
Sort through old envelopes to find one to post a textbook to Amazon in
Meal planned for week and written shopping list-website I used reckoned shopping list will cost £9 (just me!) so will see how close I can get to that
Quick shower
Pop into town (walking) for shopping-need food, freezer containers, a black cardi, iron on turn up things and new work shoes and bday card for uncle
Also see if £1land have HDMI leads... Signed up to Clubcard TV last night so can hopefully connect laptop to TV
Try to get washing out on the line-big black cloud so not certain though!
Think that's me for the day... Will check back in later and see how I got on!

Ok, so I'm not sure how to do the clever thing and update from my last post, having a cuppa and chuffed with progress, so here is what has been achieved so far this morning :j
De-cluttered fridge and removed all out of date/mouldy items
Cleaned all fridge shelves and rearranged all items so that they can now all be seen (and hopefully used!)
Emptied gone off/mouldy contents from 10 jars, 9 to be used for chutney making, 1 is going to be my next sealed pot! All washed and now sat soaking the labels off :money:
Freezer reorganised and old/boring food items that I will never use but refused previously to chuck have been dealt with! :j
Freezer items now listed and will stick on side of fridge/freezer so we know what we have!
General cupboard of tins/spices and other annoying things that fall out and normally cascade over worktop and floor (rice/pasta/sugar/flour etc!) now sorted, annoying said products now stored in sealed bags with bag clips or in variety of pretty tins I've been keeping for ages and have been sitting empty! :rotfl:
List of all spices made and stuck up inside of cupboard door so that we don't keep buying same things every time we cook a different curry! (Which is infrequent!) :T
Cupboard of doom - now this is one I wasn't going to tackle today, it's that kind of a cupboard under the stairs/pantry for us, just sorted top shelf (food items and baking products, cereals etc) and feeling quite smug about it! Threw away too many long out of date items and feel bad about the waste-age, but glad now I can see everything so I know what we have from a meal planning perspective!
Dishwasher on and washing machine on but grey cloud is looming...
Sorted three items so far for charity shop, random Olympic sweatbands we got given at work, an old water bottle and an ice cube tray.
Feeling good! :A0 -
Afternoon all,
Thanks for the starter Pippi.
Shazzer: You have been busy!
Stitchy: A new flat? That sounds exciting.
Pippi have you ever run a Share and Swap Lunch? It's a great way of sharing surplus to avoid waste without resorting to standing on street corners!
Organiser supplies bread. Participants each bring one single portion of something to share to eat with the bread like pickle or cheese and one thing to swap like a spare cabbage or seedlings from the garden.
I'm recovering from last night's belated Rosh Hashanah celebrations. L'shanah tovah tikatev v'taihatemt! May you all be inscribed and sealed for a Good New Year! Or just have a great weekend!
The List:
:staradmin Lentil and beetroot juice soup for lunch from freezer.
:staradmin Look at old freeview recorder box to see if I can get it to power up. We have Freeview in our tv but it doesn't record.
:staradmin Made bread rolls as we've munched all the shop bought bread.
:staradmin Enjoyed watching the variety of garden birds that have re-appeared since the Fascist Sparrow Army left.
:staradmin Pooled together all similar hand cream samples into one tub. OH has got a giant pile of them as she can't get into those impenetrable plastic sachets and was threatening to buy a bottle. Managed to fill a 250ml container with them all!
:staradmin Found a half full deodorant and a brand new lipbalm while rooting around in OHs bedside cabinet for sachets. Result!
:staradmin Reused baking parchment once before recycling. We also do this with tin foil and I wash and re-use Ikea own-brand-ziplock bags again and again until they fall apart.
:staradmin Looked at the Zapper website (Link)
:staradmin My laptop is slowly dying. Did a quick repair last night (the third this year) and backed up all my data in case it passes away in its sleep soon. If I lose my finances spreadsheet I'd be truly lost. I thought the laptop might have still been under warrranty but when I looked at the receipt it said I've had it four years, feels like I bought it only last year! Where did the time go? I really want a new laptop but really can't afford one and don't actually need a new one yet so it'll have to wait. Treated myself to a new colour scheme on my desktop and re-organised my taskbar instead so now it looks like I've got a new one.
:staradmin Foraging later if the weather holds. Currently sitting under a cold, black sky. Some blackberries would be nice. And now it's pouring down.
:staradmin Checked credit card bill. All in order. It feels good to just have one debt and to just pay £8 interest on it.
Freebies:
:staradmin Get 100 Nectar Points (50p) for signing up to the Nectar Points e-Shop newsletter email. (Link) I signed up, grabbed the points, then unsubscribed.
:staradmin Free Disney print (Link)
:staradmin Free Acuvue contact lenses (Link)
:staradmin Quidco: Book a free eye test and get £2.50 cashback when you investigate Acuvue TruEye products. (Link)
:staradmin Apply to test Lenor through SuperSavvy. Free samples if accepted! Lengthy application process. (Link)
:staradmin Free 14 day FindMyPast ancestral history trial subscription. (Link)
:staradmin Free Amazon Kindle e-book download "The Next President" (Link)
Offers:
:staradmin 50p coupon off Genius Gluten Free bread. (Link)
:staradmin Buy a Daily Mail, get an AA 2014 road map (Link). If you have a free MyWaitrose card (Link) and spend £5 in store, you get the weekend paper free.
:staradmin Today's newspaper offers. (Link)
:staradmin In today's Sun Magazine there's a Burger King Leaflet with 12 money off coupons inside. (Link)
:staradmin For anyone planning on buying one of those heated clothes airers (Link) discussed on here yesterday there's a £5 off £30 spend Lakeland voucher in today's The Times. (Link)
:staradmin Current Quidco ClickSnap grocery shopping offers including money back on own brand milk and loose fruit and veg in Tesco and the other big four supermarkets. (Link)
:staradmin TopCashBack SnapAndSave grocery shopping offers. (Link)Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -
