Ford Focus TDDI problems

Hi All

Well my trusty old 1999 Tddi Focus broke down the recovery man stated he thought it could be a Slipped cam belt.I was not sure about this as battery light came on 10 minutes before breaking down apart from the light coming on the car was driving fine.I had noticed a day before that the alternator belt was not running very smooth. Also I am sure the alternator bearing has been abit noisy at times.

At the moment the car engine is not turning over properly but trying to, I wonder if this was down to a weak/damaged alternator. The alternator belt is still intact.

Any help/advise would be a Great!.

Kind Regards :)

is there tension in the belt? if that's not slipping and there's tension its not the belt, undo the tensioner on the alternator and try and turn the alternator by hand it may be seized but doubtful,

you should be able to easily remove the plastic cover on the top side to inspect the cambelt, and remove the inner wheel liner and look from below, if your belt had slipped, it would have made one hell of a racked, clunking as valves hit pistons.

When you turn the key what exactly is happening? are the lights dimming on the dash the longer you have it turning over? does it start then die?

    Mileage?
