Sick pay or holiday pay?

Hi all,

I booked holiday 3 months ago from 2 sept to the 23rd sept but then i went and ruptured my tendon in my ankle 2 weeks before and im signed off by the doctor until the 16th sept. I have not been able to actually go on holiday as i can barley walk for more than a hour or so at a time and was wondering will i continue to get SSP or have to take my holiday entitlement still?

thanks

You can and I think really should cancel the holiday but depends if you need the money or not.

    Talk to your employer? ASAP?
  • yes i did ask them and they said they would get back to me as they wasnt sure and then as always...never did :P
  • If you have a doctors note then make it clear you are taking it as a sick pay and would like your holiday days back.

That's what our organisation's policy is as well. Depending on your entitlement of course - if you're a new starter at our place, for example, you don't get sick pay.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

It's not just policy, it's the law. If you are sick this doesn't count as holiday but as sick leave. Of course you are likely to need a doctors note to back it up though.

It does depends if the OP needs the money or not too in which case they can still take the holiday.
