How much Skim bead on show

Hi

We have just had our lounge and dinning rooms plaster and have got quite a lot of external corners in the two rooms. How much (if any) of the skim bead is it normal to be able to see. In most places you can see a little bit of metal if you look closely and in a few there are some bits of metal that catch the eye a little. Is what we should expect? Will this be easily covered when we paint the two rooms?

Cheers

You shouldn't really see anything. Sometimes the plaster is darker where the bead is. The key thing is touch - if you feel it, and the bead is palpable, it's not right. It should feel totally smooth.

It is right on the very corner that you can see it, where it is making the edge.

Okay, I've edited. Run your hand over it and feel it.

  • yeah it feels really really smooth right up to the corner where you can see a thin strip of metal.

it is more pronounced in some places than it is in others if that makes sense

Don't worry, I had quite a bit of the beading at the edges of walls and the fire place opening showing. Before you paint the walls, go along with a brush over the beading, then roller. Do this maybe a couple of times, allowing time to dry between. Then paint the walls normally, you won't see the beading.
