Solid roof on conservatory

I'm fed up with the conservatory being too hot in summer and too cold in winter so I'm considering putting a proper roof on it with insulation, providing the foundations are strong enough. Do I need planning permission? Has anyone done this?

The majority of conservatories, if converted to extensions, would fall under something called Permitted Development Rights. It means that some types of building work are pre-approved and don't need formal planning permission

In order to ascertain whether it needs planning permission or not, you need to answer certain questions. eg. how far does your conservatory project from the back wall of the original house?

Rules on permitted development for extensions are here. If you don't understand anything, just ask :)

A lot of Local Authorities hold planning surgeries at their offices. if you take photographs down and some measurements, you'll get advice directly from a planning officer.
