Letting Agents Boards on communal land

Googler probably does not misunderstand. The point he is making is that you might want to have a for sale board yourself at some point.
I really have no objection to genuine For Sale boards, or genuine To Let boards - and yes I probably would want one myself when I come to sell.
What I object to is letting agents putting a 'LET BY Connells/Andrews/Leaders' when all they have done is renew an existing letting agreement to an existing tenant.
These properties have not recently been available on the market. One agent refused to tell me which property his board referred to so it's possible they don't even manage a property in the close.
Anyway, I can contact the planning department and see what their view is.0 -
Common behaviour by agents. After the crisis in my old area the number of 'sold' boards mushroomed. Not because any houses had been sold, but because the agents wanted to be the ones perceived as being able to sell in a tough market. Communal land was perfect for this kind of fly-posting as it was often not clear where the sign was supposed to refer to.
On land you don't own, planning is the most appropriate avenue. Locally to me they would informally get in touch with the agents if you complained about a sign being up too long and it usually came down shortly afterwards. I think at one point they warned all the agents in the area as things eventually got cleaned up in one go.
If you own or are a co-owner (with authority; depends on the legal form) then it's more direct. You tell them to take it down or take it down yourself.0 -
