CCJ on Noddle Credit File - not mine, what can I do?

Hi,

I completed a Noddle Credit Search on myself earlier this week and discovered that I have a CCJ registered against me from 10/10/2008 in Northampton Court. I have never had any bad debt registered against me, and in 2008 whilst I was technically registered at the address on the judgement, I was away at university. The CCJ was brought to court by Yorkshire Water for £512; at the age of 19 I was in university halls in Lancaster and only got my first account with YW in 2010 when I got my first real world flat.

The judgement is in the name of example "Mr Smit" when my name is "Mr Dan Smith" - on the application lodged by YW there is no first name or date of birth; just an incorrect surname. I have contacted the CCBC at Northampton Court and they've basically told me I have 2 options:

1) Raise a dispute with Noddle (which i've already done and they have referred me to the court) (also, Noddle are the only ones that have this CCJ; Experian and Equifax are clear)
2) Complete an application to "set aside" the CCJ with a fee of £80 attached.

They have indicated that it may be debt my parents have, which I don't really want to pull them up on. The CCBC have confirmed that the debt was actually paid in full in 2011 so is settled, but the CCJ will still stay on my credit file. Obviously I don't want this - so what would you recommend as the way forward...

= my first thought is to email Yorkshire Water and complain under a breach of data protection. Due to their mess ups my credit file has been compromised and I am now aware of my parents debts etc. The fact of the matter is, with some banks they literally throw credit at me, but with others I can't get in due to "problems with your credit file" - this could go some of the way towards explaining this situation.

That is noddle's fault then. They should never have matched the CCJ against your report.
