Anyone any leads to the best place for loft insulation?

As above really. Person involved already has 100mm insulation so is not entitled to a free grant, (yes I know we could bin what we have)

So, the cheapest place to buy if you please;), about 100sq mtrs x 200mm reqd.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

If I may ask - why do you or the person involved want more insulation if you've already got 100mm? Increasing it up to 200mm or higher will only have a marginal effect on energy savings - the biggest effect is putting the first 100mm down... IMHO extra insulation will not be cost effective.

You are so wrong. As you know the 1st 100 mm is often gapped and compressed, put simply, it's uneffective

    Anyway, to help others,

Contact your local council, you would not believe the different interpretations they put on government guidelines.

No cheap insulation available, so go ebay, 50% cheaper than the sheds

Are you sure your friend can't get a grant to get the job done for nothing. I think the 'Green Deal' is available to people on certain benefits but it doesn't mention you can't have it if you've already got insulation.

Of course, if it's not installed properly, it's ineffective.
But if that's the case, just chuck the existing stuff and install from scratch or apply for grants, don't say that there exists 100mm. Saying that presupposes that it's there and it works.

He has savings that preclude him from the benefit whether you go the district council route or say British gas.

    Unless someone knows different?

Yes, I did say that in my opening post, I realise it is an option, albeit slightly "iffy";)

The existing 100mm, I found the original installation quotes etc, is compress to about an inch in many places due to a previous hoarder.

What thickness do they install in the free system?

I have looked around and the cheapest I can find to buy outright works out at £228 for 75sq mtrs of 200mm

It just niggles abit as when british gas were sponsoring the stuff at B&Q it was £3 for 5sq mtrs: ie £45 for the same amount.

I'd guess when you saw that it was when the energy providers were sponsoring the sheds as per our Gov's requirements.
That's ended, none of the sheds have anything reasonable.

I looked into the Green Deal thing, not worth the bother, all it is is a no deposit finance scheme with interest on the payments.
Ok, your bills don't go up as the payments are taken from the estimated saving after installation, but with interest, you are going to be without any reduction in heating bills for an awful long time.
