  • The BBC reporting it doesn't make it fact. It's more than likely that the seller directed the BBC to his auction to get some free publicity. Three things concern me about this auction. Firstly, the seller says he won't get emails through the "questions to the seller" link. Secondly, the Range Rover in the Sun newspaper article has a different number plate to this item. Thirdly, his reply to the question about which charities will benefit from the sale of this car. If he was selling it on behalf of George Michael, I'm sure he'd already know which charities the money should be going to.

Looks like a cheap publicity stunt by the seller to me. The BBC article only quotes the auction, and not Mr. Michael.

it could still be a fake though, if the guy who is selling this motor tipped of the beeb then they would print the story, also the auction does not once say the car was owned by "the" george michael, i'm sure somewhere in this country there is another man by the name of George Michael, also george michael is not his real name so in theory the registered owner would be Georgios Panayiotou = george michael unless he has changed it by deed poll

i agree - my gut instinct is that this aint all its portrayed to be - or is that just that i'm an ol cynic?? The plates don't match and like you say i'm sure George would know what charity he is selling the car to, and doubt he'd get dody geezer to make up a shifty auction on ebay in order to raise the cash anyway?? And maybe he should have asked someone who can spell? "George's Farther" rather than "Father" - eeek!

If you type in "George Michaels Father" into Google then you get a result at the top which says itv.com has a news article about the range rover - if you click on the link its not there so it looks to me like itv have pulled the story...

It does however bring up these stories, with interesting content (all virtually the same so obviously taken from a press release)!!

It also looks like Georges Dads name is Jack and does own a stud farm - I'm really confused now

    http://www.planetgeorge.org/trivia.aspx?mode=1&catalog=personal

    Short about George’s father
George’s father is Kyriacos Panayiotou, but he calls himself Jack Panos. He comes from the Greek part of Cyprus, but moved to London in 1952. Kyriacos started out as a waiter, and worked himself up to owning his own restaurant in Edgeware - Mr. Jacks. He is now retired, and owns a stud farm outside London.

    I'm confused now..........

george micheals mother died of cancer mabey he just wants to support them all....
and if he wants to give money to charity why doesnt he give his loose change from his wallet.. im sure there will be more than he will get for a old car

it would make sense for george to donate to breast cancer charities but i think he has many favourites, after all he took part in the band aid feed the world song and there is more than one breast cancer charity out there so he could donate to many charities therefore the guy selling the car would have difficulty telling you exactly which one the cash was going to.
I still think this auction is a spoof though, if it really was for charity to raise as much money as possible i think it would be part of the deal to meet mr michael, I'd certainly pay a bit more for that honour.
Also george michael and his pr people would have made it a much higher profile affair than just a crappy listing on ebay!!!

If it really was George Michaels car you would think he would spend the time finding someone who can spell. It is also worded in such a way that it hasn't specifically used his name anywhere in the listing! nor a photo of him driving it! - which surely if you wanna use the fact it was a singers car you would do that to prove it!

....last of all....why would a singer own a vehicle in such poor condition!?

I have just visited Georges website and asked him to confirm that it is in fact his car! .......I'll let you know! icon10.gif
