Car on finance with a default - any luck?

I have finance on a car and I had to pay through the nose but I have been overpaying so I am not being charged so much interest.
I have a default for car finance that was in January 2010.

So it's worth calling the dealers first and asking who their lenders are?
Not mentioned this yet but this would be first time on finance so I'm not quite sure how it works. Don't want to go applying left, right and centre as I'll never get a good deal that way...0 -
Don't fret too much about search numbers. While they do have a small negative impact, one or two over a 3 month period won't make a dent in your score particularly.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Update - applied, accepted by Santander for a 3 year PCP. With a default less than 3 years old. Relieved!0
