HI,
How much was the sofa ? (you should not include any interest if you bought it on a credit agreement)
Were any other matching items supplied within this cost ?
When did you buy it ?
Is the same sofa still available to buy new ? (if so, have you found a cost on Google, Amazon etc.) ?
Do you have a receipt ?....if not, do you have a bank statement, or card statement to prove how much you paid for it ?
Insurers don't rip people off deliberately but can make mistakes just like anyone else. The discounts they achieve are usually between 10 - 30% so this doesn't explain the big difference.0 -
Sorry II....took a phone call before finishing my post. Looks like you and I are thinking along the same lines;)0

Hi
It's was a gift from my mum when I got married. She paid it cash and its no longer for sale - I've hunted.
It was a 3 and 2 seater. Both damaged by my lovely niece, nephew and son whilst making me a super dooper creation.
As I said I don't mind putting something to settlement but not nigh on a grand.
1049 is minus my excess. Cash settlement would be the same.
I have spoken to them and they have asked if I find a replacement that I'd pref to send them a link and they will consider increasing their offer. I have found one very similar from same company - it's just an extra 450. So fingers crossed. Even meeting me half way would be great then is by have to find 250October Grocery Challenge: £1200 -

How much is your excess?
If the new sofas are £1,500 you would evidently have to take the excess off and so it wouldnt be an extra £450 you are expecting/ hoping for0 -
Mmmm......you'd given the impression that you were talking about 1 sofa. It now seems that when purchased by your Mum, she actually bought 2 sofas.
This changes the picture very considerably. Your insurer will only pay for the sofa which was damaged. It doesn't have to pay anything for the undamaged matching sofa although some insurers will make a contribution as a gesture (something which the FOS recommend but don't necessarily enforce). Is this not the reason why there is a difference in the amount being offered ?
I acknowledge that in your last post you have said that you had 2 sofas and BOTH were damaged but this does not seem to accord with your original posts. If you have changed your story to the insurer in the same way they are likely to ask you some further questions.0 -
If it helps I think DFS may have a sale on at the moment0
