What to do with an old CRT moinitor

Got a TFT a while back and my trusty CRT has been relegated to gathering dust.

What should I do with it? I don't want to dump it as it is in great nick and in fact has a better display than the TFT, but it is obviously bulkier.

School/hospital donation? Hmm, they probably moved onto flat screens now.

Charity shop donation? Bit heavy to cart through town.

Ebay pickp only sale? Possibility.

Any suggestions?

Could try freecycle or placing ad on local supermarket board. I think ebay you may end up just wasting money in item fees. I still have a perfectly good 17" CRT under my desk (and a working pc for that matter) right this moment that I haven't had a chance to get rid of and I probably wouldn't be able to make any money on it at all. Charity donation although maybe hassle carrying it will be quickest solution.

I think a lot of it is down to how active freecycle is in your region. It wasn't very active in my region last time I checked, but certainly worth a go.

Possibly not the most watertight structure to start off with :D

Freecycle for sure - there are ALWAYS people looking for IT bits and bobs and when offered they go fast!

Follow the links to your LOCAL freecycle from here...

have a little google, a few people have done it. You make your own tank inside the case.

Ahh not so much turning into a fish tank as simply putting a fish tank inside it. You'd still be in the same boat (excuse pun) of having to get rid of the guts of the CRT including the heavy screen.

true - guess you could try to use the insides if you really wanted some fun.
  • Try your locally council run tip/dump.

Ours take any old PC equipment and recycle for us to youth centres, schools, adult learning classes.

Additionally they also have a connection that if any PC equipment is not needed in the UK, it can be sent abroad to help out there.
