Is it acceptable? Wedding dress shopping

Hi there all

quite new to this section, weve been engaged since Sept 05 but been sorting out our finances a bit first. ]

We are now in the planning ( tentative) planning stages, and im focusing my attentions on the DRESS.

now, the obvious person to go looking for one with is my beloved OH. He is my complete best freind, and his opinion matters the most.

I wouldnt BUY a dress with him but can it really be so harmful for us to browse together?

Everyone i mention it to said that its SO wrong and cant believe im even considering it. Is it really that unlucky?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I had exaclty the same issue, in the end my DH did not want to, he is quite a traditionalist, have you asked him how he feels?
I ended up taking friends and his mother, mine is on the other side of the world, and we all loved my dress!

Me and my OH had a brief look at dresses together. I ended up buying mine second hand from ebay and he refused to look at it as he didnt want to see it, but we went shopping together for his kilt so I knew exactly what he was going to look like but he still didnt want to see my dress and Im kinda glad he didnt cause it was a surprise for him to see me on the day.

I dont think it would be any harm at all to have a look together, but I would deffo not pick the one with him.

Hubby came with me when I bought my dress and I went with him to get his suit. .Married in 2000 but have lived together for nearly 13 years so it wasn't unlucky for us. Infact after I bought my dress we won our wedding to Las Vegas in 2000 so no bad luck has come to us. Also we have since won many more holidays including anoher trip o Las Vegas so maybe us going together bought us good luck. If you both want to go and look at and buy your wedding dress go ahead and have a fantastic wedding. Dont worry about silly superstitions

Easy :) Do what YOU TWO feel happy with :) If you are happy to go shopping together then do it! Don't let anyone else tell you how to do it :)

How about looking at some dresses in magazines together? I know it's not quite the same as buying them, but you could get some ideas from him, then go and buy without him.

I won't be buying my dress for ages but i had planned on browsing a few internet sites/magazines with my OH to find out what sort of style/shape/look he likes and incorporate that into my choice, like Dizzy suggests above.

I don't know about you, maybe i'm under the thumb or something but if I know my OH likes a particular dress/top etc it makes me feel a million times better when I wear it...

You should both decide what you are going to do (i'm a big fan of telling friends/relatives to bu99er off with their "advice" :o ) although it could be a really nice surprise for the day...he will think you look amazing whether he has seen it or not! :D

    HI THERE
My hubby and i were out in town the day after getting engaged...turned a corner and there was a bridal shop ..and my dress was in the middle of the window....it was so unusual...well i thought so anyway...we both spotted it at the same time... and loved it... so whilst hubby went and waited in the pub across the road..i went in asked what size it was..and put a deposit on it without even trying it on :rotfl:
SOOOO glad i didnt end up trying on loads...:T .and when i put it on the following year to get married i loved it just as much..and hubby had forgotten what it looked like anyway:rolleyes:
So i would say..go with hubby to be..afterall its you special day and if thats how you want to do things dont let anyone put you off
Hope you find just what you are looking for...:D

    Lucky? Pah!
    You make your own luck!

Although actually I don't want my boyfriend to see my dress but only so that it's a complete surprise on the day (same with the wedding underwear!) Am wondering whether to have a drastic haircut as well....

Hey Lynz, I've not been on for ages, but am really pleased you're planning the big day.

I don't want my chap to see my dress (no matter what he thinks!) but again, I know he'll wear his kilt so I know I need to compliment rather than clash!

I would do the magazine thing, he can always do what kids do in the Argos book & mark the ones he likes!
