I bought an HGV specific sat nav in February, it is so I can avoid weight and height limits and find truck suitable routes.
There is a problem with it which is coming more to light as time goes on. If your destination is within a mile of the weight limit it will take you through and out the other side of the zone (which is illegal) to get there. It has even tried to take me over a weak bridge to get to a site.
Some times if it is just too difficult or your facing the wrong direction it will pack a sad and say 'no appropriate route' so I still have to carry maps with me for when it does this.
You also have to pay £20 a year for speed camera sites, they claim to know about a new speed camera within 24hours but there are many I know are not shown and no easy way to contact them to let them know.
Basically I have spent nearly £300 on a tool for the job which I don't feel does what it advertised it would do
It is a snooper S5000 and this is what it advertised;
I'd really appreciate your advice so I can get it right when I contact the company from the start.
Many thanks

Basically does anyone think I have a chance to return it as it's not fit for purpose?Specific routing for trucks and large vehicles
It should go without saying that the unit gives you routes based on you driving a large vehicle, but Truckmate takes it one step further by allowing you to enter the height, width, length and weight of your vehicle, and then calculating the route based on avoiding low bridges, weight restrictions and many other hazards. This lets you concentrate on the road ahead.
This includes:
Physical Restrictions:
- Height
- Weight
- Weight per Axle
- Width Restriction
- Length restriction
Legal Restrictions:
- Trucks not allowed
- No left turn for trucks
- No right turn for trucks
- No U-turn for trucks
- Trailer forbidden
- Truck specific speed limits
Hazardous Materials Restrictions:
- All trucks with hazardous goods forbidden
- All trucks with inflammable goods forbidden
- All trucks with natural goods that can be harmful for the water forbidden
Truck specific Warning Information:
- Steep hill downwards ahead
- Steep hill upwards ahead
- Lateral wind
- Risk of grounding
- Sharp curve(s)
Also takes in to account date and time related restrictions.
I'd really appreciate your advice so I can get it right when I contact the company from the start.
Many thanks

Firstly, have you updated it with the latest maps and restrictions. If you haven't updated it then they will likely just tell you to do that.
Secondly are you certain you have entered the correct information about your truck? Sorry if I sound a little patronising here, but its always best to be certain.
If you answer yes to both of the above then it certainly doesn't sound like its working properly. I would get a few examples of routes you know it gets wrong so you have some evidence when you contact the company.0 -
Thanks Mike, updating it was my first thought and I have put in all the info including axle weights as I initially thought this was why it was messing about.
I've talked to other snooper owners and it would appear that that is how the software works to let you into a restricted zone if your destination is inside it.
I've also talked to tomtom owners and theirs doesn't take you completely through a zone like snooper.0 -
The biggest problem you have is waiting 7 months to complain, you have a fight on your hands.0

It took me 7 months to get stuck in Uxbridge that's why
