faulty second hand goods

I purchased a used PS3 SLIM 500GB from cash generator online a couple of days ago. it arrived today but there is one problem... it doesn't read discs, so it is basically useless. the post on their website said nothing on this, it said it was in fully working condition.

now, I have two options - I can try to return it to the store? the problem with that is that it is 100s of miles away. I phoned them up and they apparently have a collection service to come and take it from me without having to pay postage.

the other option? phone up PS support and try to get a manufactures warranty replacement? it's a ps3 super slim which was released late september last year, so it should be covered by the years base warranty. the problem here is that it's obviously second hand and I have no proof of purchase, or even any idea when it actually was, or where from.

not sure what to do here, I've obviously been sold faulty goods, but it seems like it will be difficult to get a refund. would it be easier to try and use the manufactures warranty to get a replacement, even though I have no proof of purchase.

thanks for your help, cheers!

Why do you think that? They have offered to collect it for free. Just make sure you get a collection receipt.

because they didn't give me much information over the phone. they couldn't give a collection date, any information on how the refund will work, didn't take/want an order number, or much of anything, apart from my address. it just felt dodgy.

I would guess that this is quite a regular occurrence for them (due to the nature of the company) hence the blase attitude.

I think that a repair with Sony would be based on the serial number, therefore if you did want to go that way it shouldn't be an issue.

call sony and see what they say then if they cant do anything you will just have to return it and await for the refund.

yeah, you're probably right about that. just me being paranoid. i bought a ton of games and stuff and was super disappointed when it arrived today and wouldn't work.

I will make sure to get a collection receipt as you said.
