Credit Card Charges

I recently requested from MBNA a copy of all the charges on my account. They have sent to me all charges that go back to 2007 which is 6 years. Can I request them to go back further?

You could SAR them but it will cost you £10.
Can we ask why you need the information (which would have been on all of the statements issued to you online or by post)?

It could be that they only keep records for 6 years.

I did send a cheque for £10 and SAR them but they returned the cheque and said they do the service for free but only go back 6 years before the £35 charge was stopped. Can I ask them to go back further? I don't have my statements going back that far

You can ask, but they can only give you what they have. They are within their rights to destroy information. Indeed Data Protection rules mean that all organisations have to have a programme to remove data from their systems over time.

Did you specifically state that you were SAR' ing them?
What did you get back - just statements or everything they hold on you such as copies of applications etc and perhaps notes about when and why charges were applied to your account?
It may be that they have misunderstood what you were looking for.
