They must have changed that when the higher fees came in. Used to be £3000 if you were poor AND got AAA at A-level. Otherwise £1250 if you were 'just' poor. I actually paid for a remark of one A level to try to get a 3rd A. Mark didn't change.
That was on top of the government grant, which paid for living expenses, the tuition fee loan, and extra government loan, which has been earning me interest ever since.0 -

Yes, I was lucky enough to get the £3000 per year from my university, which nearly covered rent. A-Level results only counted in the first year though, after that it was dependent on getting 60% or above (i.e. 2-1 degree level) in the previous year's modules.

I do think students need to rent better quality accommodation than in the past. Back in the day students owned little except lever arch files, notes and very boring text books. These days students own lap tops, phones, etc...they are much more of a target for burglary...a place with a good alarm and security is a must and is money saving. In the student area my eldest lives in the burglary rate is 30% for the students annuallyTaking the cheapest, crapiset place going will probably cost a student more in the long run..0

Again the security required by MSH now includes alarm with shock sensors on windows/doors, White light security lighting. Window restrictors, double glazing with laminate glass on doors, five lever locks on exit doors,0
