Our Lenovo thinkpad keeps resetting itself back to 2009. It then won't open anything because of security certificate issues. I change it by hand and reboot and it's ok until the next time it goes. Why is this happening? We have defragged and have virus software. Any help would be most appreciated.

This generally means that the date is set wrong in the laptop's BIOS settings, which you can access by hitting a specific key (often DEL) while the machine starts to boot up.
The reason for it being wrong in the BIOS ~may~ be that the BIOS backup battery has failed, though on a 4 year old machine (assuming it is only 4 years old) that would be slightly unusual... How easy the battery is to replace depends a lot on the model.0 -
+1 for bios battery needing replacing, probably a cr2032 coin-style one. Many thinkpads house them in "shrink-wrap" with + and - wires sticking out to a connector which plugs into a socket on the motherboard......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple
