Call blocker gadget

Please be gentle with me if I'm being a bit dim, but I have been looking at those call blocker gadgets on amazon, as I'm being tortured by call centre calls 'on behalf of UK today'. It refers to blocking calls with the touch of a button, but do you have to have caller display (I don't) and know that the incoming call is a nuisance one without answering it, in order to be able to block it in future?

Quite a few blockers do work better if you have caller ID, as you can programme certain numbers to always be blocked.
However, it's not essential. Many nuisance callers withhold their number, or are calling from overseas and the number isn't displayed, so caller ID won't do anything.
TrueCall is a popular (if a little expensive) device. I haven't used one but believe it plays a recording before people are told what to press to get through, so it stops the automated calls before you even hear the phone ring.
There isn't a single solution to stopping nuisance calls while allowing legitimate ones through, you have to find one or more that best suits your situation.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. If you are looking at the global blocker it does need caller id on your line to work (you don't need a phone with caller display).
It also blocks witheld numbers and international numbers as well as the ones you manually block by pressing the button.0 -
To work effectively, these devices DO need CLI presented as without, it is only a ringing voltage and the device cannot tell anything about it.0
