Overwhelmed!

Hello,

I'm having a "moment!" Does anyone else ever feel completely overwhelmed by wedding planning!? I've just been looking at people's wedding items that were for sale on a website and thinking wow, I haven't even thought about things like that! People have gone to such detail and used such lovely things. I'm feeling overwhelmed and wondering if i'm missing things!

Think back to weddings you've attended ...... Did those tiny details make your day as a guest any more special ? Or was it the general look and the vibe of the day what made it nice ?

The nicest weddings I've been to have been the simpler ones as it was all about the bride and groom and their friends and family ....... the worst one I went to was in a lovely venue, toastmaster, harpist blah blah and it had no atmosphere at all - the only people who seemed to be having a good time were the groom's TA mates who were all tipsy-everyone else was badly seated and weren't relaxed.

Some people love fussing over details , some don't- at the end of the day stop worrying about what other people are doing and have the wedding that fits your style and comfort zone.

  • Please please don't look at other weddings and think "Oh I should have that" I've learnt the hard way of reading the wedding forums, I ordered a photobooth, white led dance floor, starlight backdrop I've been scammed for £431.50 for wanting these things at my wedding.

As long as you and your h2b get married and you have a lovely day that is all that matters the rest is seriously window dressing and I have 7 months to go! Honestly don't let these wedding forums make you dream big.

It's YOUR day, and should reflect you & your groom, not what other people had.

Like Duchy, our ideas crystallised at the wedding of some friends, who had a lovely day but also had lots of things we decided we didn't want. Our day just over 3 years ago was very personal to us, very "themed" to where we live, and thoroughly enjoyable for everyone.

Why worry over the time & money other people have spent arranging & planning - its time & money that could be better spent & saved with your H2B enjoying yourselves & not getting stressed ;)

Thanks everyone. It's not that I want to use everyone else's ideas or feel that I have to have things because of other people, I just worry that i'm not thinking of even the basics! I know i'm probably being silly! But you have helped me, you are all right, it's about us and no-one else. I sometimes wish I had more time to be creative, working full time and wedding planning is a pain!!

What sort of things do you think might be basics you have missed

    My list is
    Groom
Dress and tux for groom and my son who is giving me away-no best man
    Flowers
    Photos
    Venue
    Transport
Location for after and food and drink and cake (not having a traditional reception though)

    That's my "basics"

Duchy, when you put it like that, all the fiddly little bits can just go to hell! As long as i've got the biggies i.e something to wear! The rest are just added extras. Need to put this back into perspective! Thank you. I knew you guys would sort me out on here!!

  • The way I've been planning everything is like this - if you didn't think of it straight away it's not that important to you so you don't need it. With this line of thought we aren't spending money on things that will mean nothin to us and will have the day we want xxx

That;s the list I started with..... we are having a destination wedding though was supposed to be a wedding party of four but it sounds like we could end up with 10-15 so will need to feed and water them (not taking 15 people out to dinner tho lol) as some will drive into Vegas .

Rings duely added to the list ....knew something was missing ;)
