Mature Student - Help !!

This is a bit long winded so I apologise in advance.
Last year at the ripe old age of 34 I decided to retrain myself and enrolled on a two year part time one day a week Construction and Build course in college.
Now despite working in a 24/7 role I was unable to arrange a permanent rest day off for college and ended up having to use a lot of holidays to go to college, not the best but I put up with it.
I happily passed the first year despite having no experience in the trade.
With the second year approaching work have again denied my request to have a permanent rest day on a specific day so am pretty much stuck.
As a result of this and despite working in the same job for nearly 8 years I would like to leave, this would then allow me to work part time (30 hours + ) hours and study part time.
Currently I am earning £1360 a month but £100 of that is traveling. My aim is to take a low paid position so I don’t pay so much tax and top it up with a mature student grant.
Does anyone know if there is a mature student grant available to me or could anyone share there experiences with me.
I really want to do this despite my wife not being to keen.
Cheers
Matt

I'm afraid that there's no maintenance funding for a course like that but you should be able to top up a low paid job with tax credits, as long as you work for at least 30 hours per week.0

I'm a mature student - no one in my college class received any financial aid. I did an Access course full time (20 hours) but still worked full time (40 hours). I found a job in a call centre that was decent pay and open late so that I could still work as much as possible!Baby steps!
Current goal: Barclay overdraft up to -£10000
