Halifax Student Account

I am starting uni in October, and applied for the Halifax student account last week, and now I have just heard that they have reject me due to poor credit scoring.
This is ridiculous as I will clearly not have any credit score as I have never had a loan or any other kind of contract like this to increase my credit rating. Surely this would be the case for all students since you can't take out any contracts like this untill you are 18, so how can you ever have a score when you are 18!
I could understand rejection if I had no money in my savings accounts etc. but this is not the case - I provided them with bank statements and uni acceptance letters etc, but I really dont understand why I have been rejected, and then if I have, how can anyone get the Halifax account - or maybe this is why they offer over twice the intrest free overdraft than anyone else does - since you can't actually get it!
Sorry to nag and go on, but if anyone has any ways to somehow allow me to open this account please tell me!!!
Thanks - Barney

Don't bother with the Halifax - it's not worth the hassle! I managed to get it because I was an existing ISA customer (and had £6000 in it!!!), but they refuse to increase my overdraft above £1000.
Go with Lloyds TSB or NatWest instead - they have good overdrafts, and they're very helpful too.0 -
If I were you I'd wait till about August to try and open a student account. That's when all the banks start gearing up for student applications, announce their freebies for this year, and they'll be quite desperate to take you on.student100 hasn't been a student since 2007...0
