    That's not a reality check, it's common sense. I have a 6 year old, a 4 year old and a 1 year old.

My 6 year old is quite aware, has had the discussion about strangers etc and is very bright. I still dont even think for a second he'll be ok to leave for 30 seconds+. Clearly the same applies to the younger two.

Perhaps its just me, but that video shows that 'work' calls are too common in that childs life, and he is used to being left to his own devices. AND there's no need for the mother to leave the playground to take any kind of call, if you are with your child that is your priority, you watch your child, you listen to the call, its two seperate, not mutually exclusive, skills.

It's a biased experiment. If i'm out with all 3 kids at once, at a playground, I choose my positioning very carefully, good field of vision to see all 3, preferably with my back to the entrance/exit so cannot just slip past me. Its just common sense, I wouldn't leave my front door open, or my car unlocked, so why trust strangers with my kids.
  • its is absolutely idiotic

if you are happy to leave your child like that then you are an unfit parent i also have a 6 year old who is very aware but i still wouldnt leave him unless there was a responsible adult i knew well (grandma aunty etc)

it doesnt just pertain to calls also the parents that sit there on their mobiles on facebook or the internet not actually watching and interacting with their child but just letting them get on with it
The only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 5

Any adult who approaches a child that has been left to its own devices in a friendly manner, and who then engages with it could lead it away very quickly. I am amazed that parents needed to be part of that 'reality check' experiment to have that brought home to them!
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.
