What sort of cat is this and how to tell if a stray

Hi Everyone
Just after a bit of advice. I have made friends with a cat. It's been hanging around the yard behind me which is a business which sells fish wholesale, they start work very early and finish in the afternoon. When it was quiet back there I saw a cat through the gate. I manage to make friends with the cat who is extremely affectionat and now spends all evening and night in my small garden (I put a blanket on a chair and she curls up there).
I am not sure whether she is a stray, I don't see her during the day and that is either that it's too busy for her around the area as shes very jumpy or she DOES have a home that she goes to occasionally but is a wanderer.
The last thing I ever want to do is feed/steal another persons cat, but at the same time if she is missing from a home or a stray I want to help her before it gets cold out. She will come into my flat but shoots out if she gets startled. I also think she may be a bengal as she looks a bit like one and some of the characteristics fit. Sooo indecisive about what to do. She's OK right now as she comes to see me every day.
I'm not allowed to post links. I have a photobucket photo, how do I do it. My photobucket name is auntyrara1

Try putting a collar on her with a little barrel on it you can put a piece of paper in-and write a note and pop it in. Either the collar will vanish or the owner will ring you if the cat is a schmoozer

Very good idea. I will get a collar tomorrow.
I've thought of getting him checked for microchip but as he turns up late in the day I can't really make an appointment, as I don't know if he'll be here.
Don't want to lock him up as I suspect he might go a bit crazy and I don't have a spare bedroom to put her in, plus I really don't want to damage the bit of trust I've built up with her/him.
So yes getting a collar is the best thing to do.0 -

It's certainly one of the prettiest cats I've ever seen. Total heartbreaker.0 -
Looks as if she might indeed be a Bengal - what a beauty

She's gorgeous!
I hope you find her home - either her 'proper' one or a new one with you if she really is a stray.0 -
He/she looks far to clean and well kept to be a stray, I rather suspect he/she is having you on and spends his/her days indoors being let out when the owners get home, going back home late at night.
If she were lost/stray she would be miaowing, loudly, to be fed, does she do that or does she just like the sunny spot with the blanket she's discovered in your garden?
One of my cats has been sleeping outside in the garden in the nice weather, he's on his chair when we go to bed and is still there in the morning when we get up, I suspect of any of my neighbours has a comfy chair he'd happily sleep in their garden too
The collar is definitely a good idea, the RSPCA do paper ones you can print out and write on, probably safer for a wandering cat than a normal one, (I'd hate to be the cause of injuring someone's cat by putting a collar on it) although you may have to do it several times as they can get lost.

Love the stripy legs x Beautiful cat xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Beautiful cat.
She does look in too good condition to be a stray. The paper collar message is a great idea.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
