What happens if Passport doesn't arrive in time?

Options
I sent off my Passport Form on the 4th June, It was simple replacement request, as mine is damaged and I sent the old one to them along with the application form....

They recieved it on the 6th June, they have already taken payment from my Bank Account.

I keep filling in their online tracker and they keep responding with the standard message that they recieved the application on the 6th and it can take a standard 3-4 weeks to recieve it back.....

Now I travel on the 23rd, So what happens if I don't recieve it? I can't travel? anyway of speeding this up?

My girlfriends Brother and Father both had to renew their passports and sent them via the post office check and send service, and they both recieved theirs within a week, I sent mine via the post, as the lady at the post office said either way is as quick because the check and send service is not a faster dilivery...

Any Advise

Many Thanks

Si

Find a way to contact them, and perhaps pay extra for faster service.

Even if the standard time is 3 weeks rather than 4, you will still miss your departure.

Did you mention on your application that you were travelling on the 23rd? This is their busiest time of year.
I would leave it until Friday and then phone them.

Unfortunately you've sent them your passport at one of their busiest times of the year so its likely to take them longer than a week. You will need to call them up to "upgrade" your service to the premium service: http://www.passport.gov.uk/general_howlong_upgrading.asp will probably cost you £108 though.

If your passport doesn't come back in time then I'm afraid that you can't travel (unless its to Ireland).

Did they do their renewals at a time of high demand similar to June?

Damaged passports always take longer, they have to have extra checks - when you think about it logically, it is the only legal document and is used for opening bank accounts etc.
There is still plenty of time if you are travelling on 23rd. A lot of people don't look after their passport properly and there has to be further checks.
Ring them and ask for progress.
    Titch :)

They were very lucky then! Unfortunately whilst quick turn-arounds do happen very often, there are no guarantees so its always best to err on the safe side and allow at least the full 4 weeks.

  • Both my mother and I got our renewals back within a week- we sent them the last week of may and first week of June respectively

Neither of us paid any extra for speedier service or check and send
