Little Advice Please??

Hi everyone,

Me and my girlfriend recently applied for a mortgage with Halifax, we got accepted and have a 'mortgage promise' however they said there was a problem with my credit so would require a 15% deposit as opposed to a 10%.

Anyway I signed up and checked Experian and found that Orange had me down for a defaulted account in 2009....I am certain that I only missed 2 payments and the payed off the contract early because I was going on deployment with the military. I have since spoken to orange customer services and the advisor agreed with me but when I emailed their creditfile department they say their records are correct?

Any advice on this? I do not understand how my credit is only 'Fair' on Experian....seriously apart from that one mark on the file I have never missed a payment. I have a credit card that I pay every month and use a catalouge (littlewoods) for bits and bobs and then pay off.

Its really annoying me as we both have really good jobs, saved hard for a 10% deposit etc.

Thanks!

  • Best write to customer services, as credit departments don't usually change unless told to by another department in my experience.

Not sure how long phone companies should give before defaulting. Cards etc should be 3 months in arrears but the guidelines from the ICO don't cover everything in detail.

  • Thanks for the reply happy_bunny...will send them an email now. Honestly wouldn't think there was a problem on my file, always get offered credit so it has baffled me :(

also making sure all my accounts etc are registered at current address etc
  • Would any of you put a 'Notice of Correction' on your file in the mean time? Not sure how it will work or if it will make a difference? Also I only use 'Experian' but after browsing on here I see there is actually 3 different companies that hold records...why can't it just be straightforward!?
